Jai Dhar joined Rosen and Company in June 2006 and carries on practice as a trial and appellate counsel in the areas of criminal, regulatory and discipline law. Called to the Ontario Bar in 2005, Jai articled at the criminal defence firm of Ruby and Edwardh. Following his call to the Bar, he continued with that firm as an associate lawyer until he left in May 2006 to join Rosen and Company.
Jai has participated in the representation of clients, both individuals and corporations, before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice and the Federal Court of Canada. He currently carries his own case load and works closely with the senior members of the firm in the defence of more complex and high profile cases.
Jai's clients also benefit from his background and experience in social justice advocacy. As a law student, Jai worked as part of the team of lawyers representing one of the accused persons in the 1985 Air India Bombing Case. He spent several months in Sierra Leone, where he organized a legal awareness program to educate accused persons of their rights and of the local rules of criminal procedure. He also served one term as the Treasurer of the Canadian Lawyers' Association for International Human Rights (Vancouver branch).
Jai holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science with a focus on International Development from McGill University. He completed his law degree at the University of British Columbia in 2004. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Criminal Lawyers' Association, the Advocates' Society and the Ontario branch of the Canadian Bar Association.
